# Job Description
Position Description: The Information Security Principal Engineer is a member of the Information Security operations team, responsible for the detection and response to cyber incidents occurring on the CenturyLink network. The Principal Engineer will provide expert technical direction in the analysis of multiple and complex security systems; including the planning and overall design of the Cyber Incident Response Team. Additionally, the Principal engineer provides expertise to IT, Network, and Security teams in the implementation of recommended solutions for identified technical security issues; ensures the implementation of security solutions utilizing advanced technical expertise learned from diverse and complex client environments; serves as architecture lead on major projects with the ability and expertise to develop overall architectural direction; initiates and executes advanced research and development activities of significance to future business security strategies.
The Principal Engineer is a senior security subject matter expert, with security engineering experience in network and/or IT disciplines to support to company enterprise networks as well as customer and government agency networks. Master's degree (Ph.D. preferred), Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience required. 15

years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred. Applicable professional/technical certifications must be in place (CISSP, GPEN, GWAPT, GISEC, CISM, CISA).
The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communications skills and experience in presenting technical issues to a wide variety of audiences. In addition, the candidate must possess broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies used both within the corporate infrastructure and in delivering customer-facing services. The individual will coordinate activities across multiple departments and business units, and must be able to understand business requirements to help the business succeed. This candidate must be able to work independently to develop and execute strategies and consult with internal clients on security topics, providing designs, reviews and recommendations in compliance with corporate policy, standards, procedures and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:
Consult with executive leadership, senior management, and internal clients across multiple business units on complex security topics and policy interpretation.
Proactively identify potential security issues within the corporate and carrier infrastructure, and provide strategic direction to minimize risks to CenturyLink network and information assets.
Develop security design plans to implement, test and manage new or existing network security technologies and strategies. Provide solutions for complex operational and integration issues to successfully deploy security technologies.
Architect new information security systems and controls to mitigate risks from emerging threats across the company. Work with product to develop new security related product offerings and services for customers.
Demonstrate a high level of organizational trust handling sensitive corporate information. May require a government security clearance.
Ensure reports and findings are delivered in a timely and appropriate manner to management, operations and executive leadership.
Assess security industry trends and provide consultation, recommendations, and implementation advice on emerging technologies.
Understand new laws and regulations, and make necessary adjustments to the Information Security Policy.
# Job Requirements
Minimum
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

years experience in information security; or 12
years with a Master's Degree or Ph.D. and relevant work experience.
Experience in designing and implementing complex information security and network security architectures; network and/or firewall engineering; administration, design and implementation of security controls including experience in applying methodologies and principles for all levels of security.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in presenting technical issues to all levels of management, as well as non-technical staff.
Applicable professional/technical certifications must be in place, such as CISSP, GPEN, GWAPT, GISEC, CISM or CISA.
Must possess broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies used both within the corporate infrastructure and in delivering customer facing services.
Experience with technologies, tools and process controls to minimize risk and data exposure.
Experience in large Enterprise data centers and/or networks.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Knowledge of information security industry and regulatory obligations (ISO 27001/27002, SOX 404, PCI, FISMA, HIPAA, NACHA, NIST Framework and SSAE-16).
Active Top Secret clearance with SSBI.
Application development and/or source code review experience in Perl, Python, C/C++, C#, , ASP, PHP, or Java.
Knowledge of project management practices.
Experience in large enterprise or carrier data centers and/or networks.
